TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) – There is record drought out west and that means wildfires are burning in several states.

Now, Florida firefighters are on their way out west to help fight those blazes burning in Oregon, Idaho and California.

Florida Forest Service Spokeswoman Judith Tear says no matter where they are - it's tough work.

“It is a long day for all firefighters whether they’re in Florida or out west. Their days are often 12 - 14 hour shifts. They will come back to a camp so they can rest and we make sure that they rest and get down time before they’re up and have to go out and fight the fire again the next day,” Tear said.

The Florida teams will be deployed out west for two weeks, possibly longer.
