Winter Haven, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Winter Haven Police say officers are asking for the public's help in finding whoever is responsible for tying a dog to a cinderblock and throwing it into a Winter Haven canal. The dog was found just under the surface of the water by two fishermen, police said.

The two Lakeland men found the dog Thursday morning around 10:45. A further look showed that the dog had a nylon rope tied around its neck and a half cinderblock resting on the bottom of the canal, according to police.

The pair called officers who discovered the body of an adult male Dachshund.

Anyone with information regarding the dog or who is responsible is asked to contact the Winter Haven Police Detective Matthew Irvin or Detective Michael Roe at 863-401-2256.
