HILLSBOROUGH (970 WFLA) – Hillsborough County deputies say they have found three men who were lost in their canoe on the Hillsborough River. Originally HCSO thought there were two men, but upon reaching them, they say they discovered there was a third.
HCSO aviation unit has spotted them walking in a mixture of swamp and densely wooded area along the river. All appear to be in good health.
Deputies say the search began at 8 pm last night after officials were a man called from his cell phone saying he and his friend were lost and unable to find their way back to their launch site at John B. Sargeant Park located at U.S. 301 and Stacey Road.
HCSO aviation and marine units immediately began a search and rescue mission and found them just before 6 a.m. Tuesday, deputies say.
Deputies believe the men were stuck in one of the many swampy inlets along the river between John B. Sargeant Park and the Hillsborough River State Park.
