ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA) – St. Pete firefighters say a crash shut down the eastbound lanes of the Gandy Bridge just after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday which caused a major back up and delays into Tampa.

Officials say the crash involved a privately owned school bus, not affiliated with any district, and an SUV. Firefighters say the driver of the SUV had to be extricated and was sent to Tampa General as a trauma alert.

No children were on the bus, firefighters say, and the bus driver was treated and released on scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol is completing their investigation into the crash.
