TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA.com) - Hillsborough County Schools Superintendent MaryEllen Elia is meeting with school board members Wednesday to discuss the district's aging fleet of school buses.

On Tuesday, Elia told WFLA that she knows that there are problems with aging buses, and now, there needs to be solutions.

During Wednesday's meeting a consultant told school board members that 349 school buses should be replaced right now and 193 school buses should be replaced next year.

The consultant also said that bus breakdowns are excessive and there is extremely low morale in the transportation department.

Wednesday's meeting comes on the heels of a new troubling report by School Bus Consultants, claiming 25 percent of buses in the county, are at the "breaking point." According to the report, the buses are safe now, but won't be if something doesn't change.
