(TBO.com) - For the second straight day, a barge that came free from a tugboat in high winds has grounded off Manatee County, the Coast Guard said.

The 140-foot barge drifted in the Gulf of Mexico and ran aground Wednesday morning on Longboat Key, the Coast Guard said.

Personnel from Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg are overseeing the operation. No pollution has been reported.

“We were monitoring the barge throughout the night, Petty Officer 2nd Class Eric Garza, a member of sector’s incident management department, said in a news release. “It was anchored about one half-mile from shore. We were prepared for the possibility it could start drifting and as soon as it did, we deployed our emergency responders to assess the situation.”

A day earlier, a 180-foot barge broke free about 2 a.m. and came ashore on AnnaMariaIsland.
